Johnson County Humane Society will provide the usual and customary veterinary expenses (including vaccinations, heartworm prevention, spay or neuter).  Foster parents are responsible for any veterinary care due to injury caused by foster parent’s negligence.  Any other expenses must be pre-approved by a Johnson County Humane Society officer or board member.

As a foster home for Johnson County Humane Society you will agree to the following:

I agree to the following:

It is my responsibility to care for the animal(s) in my foster care.  I will provide proper shelter from the weather and extreme elements.  I will provide proper and adequate food and water for my animals at all times.  Food and water will be provided in clean bowls and free from dirt and debris.  I will provide safe living conditions and not put any animal in my care in harms way.  Note:  All cats will be kept indoors at all times.

JCHS is not responsible for any vet bills that occur on behalf of the animals if I choose to take them to a vet of my choice instead of a vet provided by JCHS.

I agree to obtain a voucher for all vet services for my foster animals prior to treatment.

I will reveal all information I know about animals I foster to potential adopter’s and/or other volunteers who may be taking the animal to an adoption.

I will not foster over the limit of animals that is approved by my local city/county government.

NOTE:  City of Fort Worth.  I will be allowed 6 adult foster animals.  Any litters with my foster animals are exempt from numbering for the first 8 to 10 weeks.  Any foster animal in my care after 30 days must be registered with the city of Fort Worth.

I agree to check in as required with an accurate account of animals in my care for JCHS.

I will provide adequate space for all animals I foster.  If an animal is sick and contagious I will separate it from the other animals to minimize their risk of exposure.

I understand that JCHS will schedule an initial home visit upon receipt of my foster application and thereafter annually or whenever deemed necessary.

Any crates, cages etc. I receive as donations from the public or borrow from other volunteers are not mine to keep. I will return them to JCHS when I am asked to do so or no longer fostering for JCHS.

I will use good judgment in choosing animals to foster. An animal with a known bad history is not a good choice to foster. I will get approval from the entire board of directors before I pull an animal from a shelter that has extensive medical issues.  (This doesn’t pertain to animals we find stray or abandoned that are in need of emergency care).

I will treat all animals that become ill a minimum of 2 weeks before bringing to an adoption. Animals with ringworm need to be treated for a minimum of 3 weeks before going to an adoption.

I will be responsible for animals returned within 30 days regardless if it is one I fostered or if it is an individuals pet I helped place.

If an individual calls with a problem concerning an animal I have fostered or placed for an individual I will return the call within 24 hours, if I am unable to do so I will make arrangement with one of the directors to return the call for me.

I will keep all animals that are pulled from a shelter for a minimum of 1 week before adopting them out.

All “Sponsored Foster” must be approved of by JCHS prior to my giving them any animals to foster!!  I understand that any “Sponsored Fosters” I have must be listed under my name in the system.  I also understand my “sponsored foster” is my responsibility and that does include their animals, meds, facility…etc.  I agree my “sponsor Foster” should never be allowed to visit area shelters and pull animals on their own.

I agree to register every animal in my foster care into the ASM system.

I agree to not hold JCHS accountable for any damages to property or persons by my foster animals while serving as a volunteer.

JCHS takes in battered, abused, neglected animals of which the temperaments and overall demeanor is unknown.  I will not hold JCHS accountable for any injuries received while handling animals during the course of my volunteer duties.

Should I decide to resign from my Foster Agreement with JCHS, JCHS reserves the right to retain the animal that was fostered under our name, or if the foster keeps the animal JCHS gets reimbursed for vetting or a portion of vetting.  (Please keep this in mind when you are taking in foster animals and do not overload yourself).

I agree to attend adoption events with my foster animals.
